Johnnie Walker Classic

The Johnnie Walker Classic is acknowledged as one of the premier events on the Australasian Tour, with the event rotating throughout the region. However only once in the history of the event has the event been played at the same course in successive years and this was at Lake Karrinyup Country Club in 2002 and 2003.

In 2002, the course proved to be the master over all players, with the exception of South Africa's Retief Goosen. While only 7 players broke par for the tournament, Goosen played at a different level than his competitors to finish at 14 under par and win the event by 8 shots from Pierre Fulke with Sergio Garcia a further shot back. Goosen set up his victory with a course breaking record 3rd round of 63 which left him 15 shots in front entering the last round.

In 2003, helped by perfect weather with little or no breeze, the course played easier and whilst many of the players shot scores well under par, another South African dominated the leaderboard. The "Big Easy" Ernie Els shot a phenomenal score of 29 under par to win by 10 shots from Stephen Leaney and Andre Stolz.
