Length:<\/strong>\u00a0 47-61 cm Very Common<\/span><\/p>\n

Also known as the Brown, Grey or Wild Duck.<\/p>\n

Together with the Australian Wood Duck, this is our commonest duck and can always be seen on or around the lake. It can be easily recognised by the dark stripe through the eye, with paler stripes above and below. The male and the female are very similar in appearance. It may interbreed with other species of duck. Similar species: female Grey Teal and female Chestnut Teal.<\/p>\n

I wonder why it is called a black or grey duck (mostly in New Zealand) or wild when it is so obviously brown and easily tamed?<\/p>\n
