Three times European Tour event winner Brett Rumford will be representing Western Australia in more ways than one when he tackles the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland next month (October 4 to 7). Brett will be proudly wearing Perth branding on his apparel at the event to promote Perth and the inaugural Perth International golf tournament.
Although he spends several months of the year based in the UK and playing on the European Tour, Brett’s feet are firmly planted on Western Australian soil and he is looking forward to showing off his hometown to the international field of players that will assemble in Perth next month.
“It will be great to stay at home that week and have the opportunity to play at Lake Karrinyup in front of friends and family.
“I’ll also be spreading the word about the things I love most about Perth….the weather, the beaches, and the accessibility.
“West Australians love their sport and love to be active and people are excited about an international golf event coming back to Perth, so I think will definitely come out to support this event.”
Brett has returned to form, finishing runner up at the Johnnie Walker Championship in Scotland in August. Career highlights include winning the Australian Amateur Championship in 1998, the ANZ Players Championship on the PGA Tour of Australasia as an amateur and three European Tour titles including the Irish Open and European Masters.
The Perth International, from October 18 to 21, is owned and promoted by IMG and is the collective vision of Eventscorp, a division of Tourism Western Australia, and IMG to see a major international golf event played annually in Perth.
The Perth International is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour and with prize money of US$2,000,000 it is the richest tournament in Australia. It is also the only event in Australia co-sanctioned with the European Tour and will be broadcasted globally via European Tour Television for over 800 hours showcasing Perth and Western Australia to 400 million homes in 67 countries. The winner of the event will receive an exemption to the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions to be played in China two weeks after the Perth International.
