Saturday, 6 July saw a field of 236 compete for the President’s trophy. A cold start greeted the am field with players obviously taking a while to get going and therefore struggled to post a score. Gary Wood was the clubhouse leader at lunchtime after a round of 2up. The afternoon players seemed to enjoy the conditions more with a quarter of the field playing to their handicap or better. In the end there was two impressive scores of 4up with Greg Baker prevailing from Doug King on a countback. A full bar was present, including some questionable characters ready for the night ahead, to witness a presentation with a difference and to partake in a toast to the President, lead by Past President John Hopkins.
The evening festivities commenced with members entering the dining room venue via the red carpet and they were in high spirits and with some psychedelic costumes well fit to the era also. After formalities by the General Manager and The President, they were taken back to the 70s with bright colours, flashing lights and a surprise performance from She Moves dance studio who took to the “pole” for a breathtaking performance.
A delectable feast was served by Chef Richard and his wonderful team which consisted of mini prawn cocktails to the famous beef wellington and an amazing array of desserts to top off the evening – it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Live band “Carbon Taxi” took to the stage with some of the favourite songs of the era and the dance floor was heaving until the nights end.
