Update on Lake works – more clay arriving on site

As announced by President Chris Carey on Saturday evening, we are pleased to be taking delivery of 1,000 cubic metres of clay this week for the Lake project.  The clay will be stockpiled at the rear of the third tee and delivery will commence tomorrow through to Friday so we ask members to be wary of trucks entering and leaving the course, particularly when crossing the 15th and 16th holes. We thank you for your co-operation and patience during the delivery period.

I am pleased to say that the current package of works is now complete.  In this package of works the following has been achieved:

Drain in to first pond (smaller pond) has been cleaned out and geofabric installed

  • The spillway from the first pond to the main pond has been installed
  • The spillway from the main pond to the body of the lake has been installed
  • The available clay on site (900 cubic metres) has been used to line the spillways to avoid erosion and the balance used to line the top of the internal bank to allow for future planting and stabilisation
  • Planting to soften the appearance — this will be done by the club in the coming months.

It is important to note that this package of work is a fixed price contract.

The Club is still required to line the base of the main pond however at this point in time we do not have access to sufficient clay to achieve this. If and when it becomes available we will advise you further of our next course of action. I would like to thank the Lake Working Group for their tireless efforts on this project. It has at times been very frustrating but the objective of lining the lake is still paramount.
