Round 5 saw sides travel to all points of the metro area with unfortunately the same result at all venues.
Division 2 lost a couple players to border control on the way south to Melville Glades and had to recall Club Captain John Hanly to the side at the last minute. Once again it was the sides veterans who posted the wins with Brendan Milburn (1up), Jules Harris (1up) and John Hanly (19th) but unfortunately these were the only wins as the side went down 6-3. In the other match Mt Lawley scored an important away win which takes our side out of promotion contention. A win will this week at home against Mt Lawley will secure their place in Division 2 for next season.
The Juniors also played Melville Glades and had a narrow 4 ½ – 2 ½ loss. Ethan Andrews (2/1) had another good win while Liam Flynn (2/1) also won on debut. Tip Snowden halved his match. Once again the boys have had another good season and are still in contention for a place in the final.
Division 5 grabbed their compasses and headed east to take on Chequers. Chequers sit top of the table in division 5 and showed their supremacy at home with a comprehensive 6-1 win. Jim Crockett was the lone winner for Lake Karrinyup sneaking over the line 1up. A final round match against Joondalup awaits the side in the final round with the aim of repeating the 6-1 victory form earlier in the season.
Division 7 headed north for their match with Sun City but unfortunately not much went right for a side missing several regulars as Lake Karrinyup were defeated 6 ½ – ½. Captain Steve Paisio was the only player to register a score – halving his match. Division 7 also head to Joondalup this week for a must win match as they are still a mathematical chance of playing the final.
The Division 8 side also headed to Sun City but were unfortunately pipped on the line going down 4-3. Captain Mark Innes (6/5) and Andrew O’Neil (5/4) recorded big wins while Steve Temple (1up) kept his record intact for the season. A win this week will hopefully result in Division 8 getting a finals berth the following week.
Round 6 sees Division 2 and Juniors returning home to take on Melville Glades while the lower divisions have another road trip Divisions 5 and 7 playing Joondalup and Division 8 take on WAGC.
Best of luck to all sides.
