Course Maintenance

Important Notice to Members regarding course renovations
In recent days the bi-monthly “From the GMs Desk” indicated that in the week commencing December 2 the greens would be cored “subject to weather”. A decision has now been taken that in the best interests of the health of our greens that they will not be cored this spring/summer. At present the greens are providing for good putting and the organic matter to sand ratio in the profile is very good meaning that coring is not necessary. Rising ground temperatures are also a factor in our considerations. Coring at this time would also slow down our poa annua eradication program which is progressing well and also stop root growth which is very strong at present. In lieu of this coring the greens will still receive a heavy/deeper spiking and dusting which will still require the course to be closed on Monday December 2 however the greens should return to very good condition in a day or so.

Other Major Course Maintenance
As scheduled our fairways will be scarified commencing next Monday. This process will continue throughout the week with the front nine being closed next Monday and Tuesday and the back nine closed on Friday.

The fairway coring will be brought forward in to the following week (December 2 onwards) to reduce the number of days under renovation and disruption to play should be minimal. Coring of fairways will be completed no later than Tuesday December 11 with coring of surrounds completed by Thursday December 13.

All of the above maintenance has been compacted to minimize disruption to golfers and will undoubtedly lead to a quicker recovery and outstanding fairways for members to enjoy throughout the rest of the year. An information sheet on why we scarify fairways has been included with this email.
