Men’s & Junior Pennant Final

The Division 4 team from Lake Karrinyup headed up to Sun City to take on cross-town rivals Mt Lawley for the Gold Division final.

Everyone was tense as the team looked to win the flag in the clubs first attempt at this division. With a strong team the Lake Karrinyup squad was quietly confident as they are all talented golfers and were ready for the challenge. Sam Gill lead the boys out and had a great start. His opponent had a solid finish and just pipped Sam on the last hole. Steve Brooke was second out but came across a very strong opponent and his caddie (yours truly) was useless. Sorry Steve. The big hitting Tim Allison was at number 5 and he did the team and club proud with a dominant performance. He is an asset to the club and his dad was a super caddie. At number 4 the ever consistent Greg Bandy was never troubled and had the full Bandy clan out for support. A great clubman and a great win. Alan Tear was at number 3 and faced a consistent opponent that just managed to beat him on the last hole. At number 2 was the formidable Rundus team with dad Joe helping Mike to a vital win. The highlight was Mike’s Tiger Woods like celebration as he watched a monster putt drop on the 14th.  Our number 1 was Matt Bowra who rose to the challenge and got the final win for the team. His opponent was coming home strong but Matt was clutch through his final two holes. He sealed the win for the team with a 12 foot put on the 17th and the flag was ours.

I would like to thank all of the players that helped us get to this position but especially Rob Morrison who couldn’t be in Perth this weekend but was instrumental through the season. The team consisted of Matt Bowra, Mike Rundus, Alan Tear, Greg Bandy, Tim Allison, Steve Brooke, Sam Gill, Rob Morrison, Jules Harris, Ethan Andrews, Jon Clancy andTodd Gault. It was a privilege to captain such a great team and I would like to thank the whole club for all their support.

The Junior pennant team entered Sunday’s final against Melville Glades full of confidence after a stellar season where they did not lose a game. The final was contested at Hartfield Country Club over 36 holes of match play. Pete McCabe’s team fought hard all day however eventually went down by the narrowest of margins 3 matches to 4. It was a fantastic achievement  to reach the final by the young men and they represented the club with distinction throughout the season. The club is extremely proud of their efforts over the past few weeks.
