Recently Karrinyup Country Club collected many marvellous children’s books, which the Service in Action 2014 team of 20 students from Christ Church and St Mary’s took over to Cambodia. The children at the CCF schools  in Phnom Penh absolutely loved these books and were delighted to spend an hour each day reading them with us. The children there are so eager to learn and appreciate everything they have and were so grateful for some new books to read as their library is the size of a toilet stall! We brought these books with us to school each day as teaching resources and they were so useful to have to break up the monotonous wrote learning system they use over there to learn English. At the end of our week of teaching, CCF collected all the books and distributed them amongst the six schools as they were most needed.

 

I would like to say a big thank you on behalf of all of us who went on the tour and also from the Cambodian Children’s Fund to you and all the ladies who donated books, and I only wish you could have witnessed the smiles on the children’s’ faces as they read these books! Pictures will be released from the tour soon and if there are any of us reading with the children I will send them through to you.
