2015 Ladies Senior Pennant Team

>>        senior pennants 2015 .SP5 SP2 SP3 SP5 SP4

>> It was a closely contested season this year with only 5 points separating the top teams from the bottom teams. For a change, no one club dominated with the result that at the conclusion of the final games, every level was decided upon via a count-back of games won. We also appreciate the fact that 11 players were available to help our club contest this event.

>> For Lake Karrinyup, it wasn’t our best season but our gallant girls fought hard, particularly at Sun City, Yanchep, where we experienced severe wet and windy conditions. It was also the first experience most of our team members had of “Barrancas”. We had some difficulty determining the difference between a “barranca” and a “fairway bunker”. A barranca is the name given to a storm water drain and one does not have the same restrictions they would usually experience when their ball lands in a bunker i.e. you can move branches and other obstacles. However, if we didn’t know which was which, one had to play the ball as it lay. A special thanks to our Captain, Sue King, who had to step in at the last minute and play. However all our teams lost their matches that day – not our finest effort.

>> Despite the team result, it should be mentioned that quite a few of the games went to the 18th hole with either a 1 down or 2/1 loss. This leads me to the other challenge our team had to contend with and that was the giving of strokes. Our club seemed to have to concede the highest number and in one match, 22 strokes were given. A challenge for any player off the scratch mark.

>> Nevertheless we fought our way to the finish; playing Wanneroo at Wanneroo. Although we lost 1/3, this result helped to promote Wanneroo to equal top with WA Club, who were top of the ladder at the start of the final day; and they were expected to win. But they lost all 4 games, so the outcome was determined on games won, with Wanneroo winning by half a point. In the history of the Senior Pennants, this has been its most closely contested season.

>> Well done to all the players who participated and special thanks to all those members who came to the various clubs to lend their support. In particular on the final day as it was most encouraging to have President Anne and Vice-President Rosie out in force and lending their support.

>> The camaraderie within our team was excellent and in no small way a credit to our Captain – Sue. On site early at every club and on hand to lend encouragement and support. She demonstrated a good “captain’s knock” at Joondalup too, when required to step up and play at the last minute.

>> For the team members, it’s a great opportunity to play a different type of match-play (played in teams of 2) and to get out and about and play at a variety of different courses. Several of our girls played pennants for the first time while others experienced courses they had not had the opportunity to play; so what with all this experience, 2016 could be our year!

>> Kind regards
