Tuesday 1st November saw the club’s terrace and dining room transformed into a colourful Melbourne Cup celebration extravaganza!
A record crowd of 261 members and their guests attended the day and a fabulous time was had by all. The day commenced from 11am with champage and canapes on the terrace on arrival. The staff and committee were busy selling cup sweeps and everyone took part. The race aired at 12noon with great anticipation and excitement. Once correct weight was called, some lucky punters collected their winnings and everyone was then seated for a delectable 3 course luncheon prepared by Chef Dean and his team. General Manager Damon welcomed everyone and after main course Vice President Con presented the prizes for the day.
Best dress male went to Ray Kershaw, best dressed female was awarded to Sharon Bristow, best hat/fascinator went to Carol Bedbrook, best tie to Jeff Skinner, Miss Melbourne Cup 2016 to MIchelle Edwards, the “stand out” prize to Andrew van der Meer (for obvious reasons), and some other glamourous prize winners were Fiona Wildy, Jane Robinson, Judy Garland, Jodie Benney and Tarn Hede. Andrea Colthard and Alissa Taylor’s table took out the Trivia table prize.
After lunch it was back out on the terrace to enjoy the sunshine and refresments.
A big thank you to Romana and her wonderful team, Dean and his fantastic team in the kitchen, the admin staff and a very special mention to Tarn Hede and her mother Cynthia Stanwyck for spending tireless hours making the floral arrangements and dressing the room up so beautifully
