The 2016 Karrinyup bowl was held on Sunday the 6th of November with a field of 89 players from Golf Club’s across the state teeing it up in the 36 hole Paxton Average Ranking event. This year’s event attracted a very strong field including US Amateur Champion Curtis Luck & US Junior Champion Min Woo Lee.
Early breezy conditions as well as the difficult course set up made for a tough an interesting morning round with the two marquee players Luck & Lee tied on 69 just one shot ahead of Ethan Andrews on 70.
The afternoon round produced a fantastic spectacle for the onlooking LKCC members watching between the 2 young guns Luck & Lee , with Min Woo Lee breaking 2 shots clear after the Par 4 10th . However, a brilliant bunker shot holed by Luck on the 14th for an eagle 2 and capitalising on successive bogeys from Min Woo Lee saw the pair tied walking down the 36th Hole.
A regulation Par from Curtis Luck left it up to Min Woo Lee to hole a 8 Foot putt to force a playoff which unfortunately just slid by, resulting in Curtis Luck the champion of the 2016 Karrinyup Bowl by only a single shot and finishing with an afternoon score of 71.
The leading Lake Karrinyup members were Joe Owen with consistent rounds of 73,73 for 146 to finish in a tied for 3rd , Kristian Mitchell one shot further on 147 and Matt Bowra & Ethan Andrews on 149.
I’m sure all LKCC members that came out to watch had a fantastic day and would agree they witnessed some stars of the future.
