The LKCC girls finished in 5th place (out of 6) in Division 1. This is a good result as they were by far the weakest team on paper in a competition played off ¾ handicap difference. The original squad of 8 was reduced to 6 due to injury.
The usual coaching sessions with Graham Warburton were not offered this year and thanks goes to Nick D’Avoine for his paid coaching. Unfortunately the timing of the junior pennant season makes the logistics of bringing a team together very difficult.
The first round was played a week before the schools went back and 4 of the 6 girl team were still on holiday. Two players did play the first round, but neither had wins against eventual runaway winners Royal Fremantle.
The second round was also a loss to last years winners Gosnells.
Round three and four were against the very strong Mount Lawley 1 and 2. Georgia Garner Dart had an outstanding win against Kirsten Rudgley, with four of the five others also winning. 10 year old Cora-Mae Clancy had her first Pennant win. In week four LKCC could only field 5 players so a halved match was an outstanding result.
Unfortunately the girls were thoroughly beaten in the final round at Lake Karrinyup by an on form Royal Perth team.
The girls and their caddies behaved impeccably throughout the tournament, always supporting each other.
Without a structured coaching program the LKCC girls struggle to compete against clubs with a dedicated junior coaching program, however this may change soon.
