Members are reminded that an information night will be held in the Dining Room at 7pm on Tuesday July 7. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting concludes.
The purpose of the meeting is to present to members the proposed category changes that are consistent with the Club’s strategic objective of “completing a membership category review to ensure categories provided were relevant and appealing”.
A brief presentation will be held which will be followed by an opportunity for members to ask questions. To assist members in understanding what changes are proposed an Explanatory Memorandum has been prepared. Please click here to download it. The memorandum also includes the proposed Constitutional changes. To compare these proposed changes with the current Constitution, please click here.
It is anticipated that an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) will be held late July or early August at which these changes will be considered and voted upon. Electronic voting will also be utilized in the lead up to the EGM.
In December 2018, the General Committee reviewed the Club’s Strategic Direction and introduced an objective for “strong demand for membership and a healthy waiting list”. A key deliverable from this objective was to “complete a membership category review to ensure categories provided were relevant and appealing”.
The review was brought about due to several major factors within the membership structure which include:
- Inequality and unfairness amongst the categories with regards to gender, age and playing rights.
- An excessive number of membership categories, bringing about confusion and administration challenges
- The resignation of members from the non-playing category, particularly younger members
- The challenge of attracting and retaining a younger membership base
Over the past year the Membership Advisory Committee have been working through the review and have submitted their recommendations to the General Committee. These recommendations as yet do not touch on the Full and Female membership categories (this will follow next year) however they do address many of the issues in several other categories. These include:
- Creating a better pathway for younger members to move to Full Membership
- Ensuring a non-playing category that better reflects the needs of members to ensure improved retention rates
- Accessibility to North Course membership to men and women alike
- Equality in subscriptions and entrance fees
- Substantially reducing the number of membership categories
Before these changes are put to the membership at an Extraordinary General Meeting an Information Night will be held in the Dining Room at 7pm on Tuesday July 7. At that meeting a brief presentation will be conducted on the proposed changes and an opportunity to ask questions. In the lead up to that meeting relevant information will be emailed to members. There is no booking sheet for this event however members in all categories are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Kind regards,
Damon Lonnie – General Manager
