Ladies 2021 Pennant Blog

2021 Senior Women’s Pennant Winners LKCC – 22nd August 2021

After 5 rounds and one wash out, the LKCC Senior Women’s Pennant team won the 2021 Pennant with 8 points, closely followed by WAGC and Mt Lawley on 7 points.

The team played some brilliant golf during the season, with terrific fight backs and many of the matches going to the 18th hole.

The season was played in windy, rainy and freezing conditions on most Mondays, with a beautiful day for the final contest at Cottesloe. With very fast and undulating greens, the team found it difficult to drop putts. After nail biting matches, the LKCC team secured 3 matches to win against Nedlands and give us the two points needed for the Pennant.

Thanks to the wonderful LKCC supporters who came out to Cottesloe to cheer us on.

Congratulations to 2021 Senior Pennant players: Julie Burgess, Julia Griffiths, Valerie Lapinski, Helen Logie, Caroline Witting, Sue Elstone, Ann Manning, Jill Clarke, Jill Green and Vicki King.

2021 Women’s Senior Pennants – Round 5, August 9, @Joondalup, playing WAGC

The team braved gale force winds to halve the match against tough competitors, WAGC, who have not lost this season.

A combination of strong winds and fast greens made it almost impossible to get the ball to hold on the greens.

Several matches went to the 18th hole and, in true Lake Karrinyup style, we saw some great fight backs.

Focused concentration helped the putts to sink and secure us the two matches we needed to halve.

Well done to each and every player for giving it your very best in trying conditions.

Have a well deserved rest next week and see you at Cottesloe on August 23 where we will do our best to secure the Pennant.

WABLGA Pennant Final Report – Sunday 1st August 2021

The five of us (plus 3 dedicated caddies) played in the worst conditions ever on Sunday – hail and wind you could hardly stand up in at times – we scored a win and two squared games and were placed fourth out if the 12 teams, with Mosman Park third, Royal Perth second and WAGC first.

Thank you to all our supporters and to our club who paid for our lunches and balls.

We will be out there next year trying hard to make it to the finals and enjoying the wonderful company of the other ‘business ladies’ in this league!

Weekender’s Round 5 WABLGA Pennant Report

Last Sunday the team fought courageously to earn the right to face the top team of the Gold Division in the finals, but unfortunately, we were beaten.

We licked our wounds and it was noted that we were a fun team, as we donned our Christmas headgear to support our hosts (Pinjarra) who had created a ‘Christmas in July’ lunch.

Good news – in 2018 we came 7th in the finals, in 2019 we were placed 5th and this year we have a chance to achieve 3rd place!

Our tee off time this Sunday 1st August is 8:00 am from the 4th tee against Bunbury at RFGC. (WAGC and RPGC 1 playoff for the pennant).

Dy Fripp – 2021 LKCC Pennant Captain.

2021 Women’s Senior Pennants – Round 3, July 26, @ WAGC against Mt Lawley

Although the forecast was for severe winds and rain, we were fortunate to have reasonably good weather.

The team halved the competition against Mt Lawley with some very tight matches.

We saw some fabulous putting and excellent golf.

Well done to all players and we look forward to our next round against Joondalup at Mt Lawley.

2021 Women’s Senior Pennants – Round 2, July 19, Nedlands GC

After the cancellation of the first round of the season due to heavy rain, the Women’s Senior Pennant team played their second round at Nedlands GC in very cold conditions.

The team won 3 matches to 1 against Lakelands, with two matches finishing on the 18th hole.

The team showed great stamina and fortitude, with some matches lasting over 5 and a half hours!

Well done to all players and we look forward to our next round against Mt Lawley at WAGC.

18th July – WABLGA

We met a determined-to-win Mandurah team at Royal Perth yesterday, Sunday 18th.  After 2 hours of gruelling play, we had to stop due to heavy rain.  An hour’s break gave us a chance to re-group, catch-up and deal with lots of casual water!

Well done team and caddy Jan (Kate’s beautiful mum) and thank you Sharon, for your help on the day.

Highlights- Sandy soldiering on, so far winning all 3 games she has played, Kate winning 4 out of 4 and Georgie sinking a ‘pro’ putt on the 18th! Keep it up ladies – we need a win this Sunday against WAGC in Pinjarra to qualify for the finals!

12th July – WABLGA

We had another great win – 3.5/1.5, this time against Gosnells on a beautifully sunny day on Sunday 11th July, albeit very soggy underfoot at WAGC.  The team from left to right:  Sandy Spence, Georgie Wynne, Dy Fripp, Kate Rennie and Wendy Naude.

4th July – WABLGA

The WABLGA team had a sensational win on Sunday 4th July in Bunbury against Royal Perth – winning 5 to 0. Team members were Sharon Cork , Dy Fripp, Kate Rennie, Wendy Naude and Sandy Spence. Not a great photo (and Kate is missing) but a very proud moment.

We have a challenge ahead when we play Gosnells this weekend Sunday 11th at WAGC.

27th June – WABLGA

Happy to report a win today against Royal Fremantle 3/2.
All matches hard fought ( Kate was 6 down on the tenth to come back to 2 up; Martine won on the 18th, Martine rarely plays pennants. Daughter Harriet was caddying – Georgie held her ground against 6 handicap Sue Palu)!
Every player had a caddy and 3 additional supporters, so great team effort.

Round 6 2021 Women’s Pennant

Division 1 – Sunday 13th June – BYE

Division 2 – Monday 14th June – LKCC 3 lost to Wanneroo 4

Oh, what might have been…
Players and caddies alike fought valiantly in cold, wet and blustery conditions to almost pull off the win. It was so close!!
I’m so proud of you all for your fantastic efforts and tremendous team spirit.
Onward and upward… let’s go out with a flourish in our final match at the Vines next week!

Division 4 – Monday 14th June – LKCC 0 lost to WAGC 7

Oh dear, what a shock to the system we were flying high ready to collect the pennant flag but NO a 7/0 defeat brought us back to reality!!
Well one has to learn to win AND lose gracefully which the team did with flying colours.
They also supported each other which was nice to see.
We had a few girls go to the 18th but unfortunately they were a better team on the day and it was the oppositions home ground.
The team fought well with the help of their caddies and thank you all, I really enjoyed the ride.
Valerie

Round 5 2021 Women’s Pennant

Division 1 – Sunday 30th May – LKCC 2 lost to Mt Lawley 5

A cold miserable wet day with patches of sunshine, thankyou to the players and faithful caddies for your effort and desire it was definitely evident but unfortunately the Mt Lawley team overtook us.
Carmen and Peta both had very good wins well done to you both.. it makes me very proud to know you all accept your position in the team wherever you are placed.
In the meantime….
We have plenty of time to practice for our last game at Mt Lawley on the 20th June against Royal Fremantle, so let us finish this season off with a fighting win.
Enjoy your break..   Di

Division 2 hosted Round 5 so the team had a BYE

Division 4 – Monday 31st May – LKCC 5.5 def Joondalup 1.5

The morning was freezing and by the time the players had hit off they were quite stiff so the drives were a little wayward.
But how excited the team was with the 5 1/2 to 1/2 victory!!
They all fought valiantly, some had bigger smiles than others.
The caddies were terrific, as usual, in their support.

Round 4 2021 Women’s Pennant

Division 1 – Sunday 23rd May – LKCC 7 def Cottesloe 0

Not really a lot I can say today except “WOW”. What a stupendous win!!!!!
It was there right from the first tee off the endeavour to win all matches… great games all round you absolutely deserved your wins today making us so proud of you all as players, also to our fantastic caddies for their efforts in this winning team.
Practice well this week everyone as we have a big match next Sunday, and enjoy your golf games this week.
As Regina would say   ONWARDS AND UPWARDS..

Division 2 – Monday 24th May – LKCC 4 def The Vines 3

Another round, another win! And against the current top team, no less!!
A fantastic effort by players and caddies alike in miserable cold and wet conditions … a nail-biting affair as matches were up, then down, then square, then up again…
A bye next Monday and then only two rounds to go…
A perfect opportunity to hone our skills in preparation as we try for three victories in a row in Round 5.
Couldn’t be prouder!
Regina

Division 4 – Monday 24th May – LKCC 4 def Lakelands 3

Well what a day! Rain, freezing cold and playing a better team, well the girls proved how great they are!
With smiling faces and full of enthusiasm, they set off to do their absolute best which they certainly did!
Several going to the 18th hole, so after a roller coaster ride of players being up then down finally up to win 4/3.
Very happy NPC!
Valerie

Round 3  2021 Women’s Pennant

Division 1 – Sunday 16th May – LKCC 5 def MGGC 2

A great day with a very convincing win!!!
Wonderful effort from players and their caddies today, I do not think we ever looked as if we would lose this one… we had 2 matches that went down the 19th and the 20th and they were very unlucky not to win, such a great fighting effort…
Our No 1 Sheridan never ceases to amaze us with her winning prowess at the ripe old age of 16 (we love you in our team). All of our solid stalwarts we can rely on you all, such good players..
After our practice sessions this week and our mid season get together on Saturday we will be ready for Cottesloe at Royal Fremantle Golf Club on Sunday…
I as your NPC thank you it is my pleasure to be there for you all..enjoy your golf this week..

Division 2 – Monday 17th May – LKCC def Mandurah 4/3

We did it!
What an amazing win against very strong opposition. Mandurah don’t have a Div 1 team so we were facing their best players. To achieve a 4 and 3 victory was an immense credit to all involved – players and caddies alike…
It was a nail-biting affair, all the way to the 19th hole for the last player standing, to chalk up the 4th winning match and the overall win for the team.
I’m absolutely bursting with pride, not only because we won today, but in recognition of the fantastic camaraderie and fighting spirit that oozes from this team.
What a very fortunate NPC I am!
Regina

Division 4 – Monday 17th May – LKCC def Wanneroo 5/2

It was a fantastic match, the team did  so well and we won 5/2.
The win gave the girls a big lift which was wonderful to see!
They were so happy and the losses went to the 18th but both fought so hard.

Round 2  2021 Women’s Pennant

Division 1 – Sunday 9th May – against RPGC 2/5

Thank you to all players and caddies for today’s intense fight for the win the commitment was there and they were all very tough games. You are all very good players out of luck today but we have to say we played a better side on the day..
One highlight of the day was the 5th par 3 Peta hit the pin half way down flag thought I was going to see a hole in one..
I am very proud to see you all rally around one another and that is something that will give us the wins is our team spirit.. and our uniforms look great lots of nice comments from opposition team .
In the meantime continue your practice and we will be ready for Melville Glades at WAGC next Sunday. Enjoy your golf this week

Division 2 – Monday 10th May – against RPGC 1/6

The conditions were perfect, the team fought valiantly, but it was not to be.
To win only one of seven matches is undeniably disappointing, but all of the players can hold their heads high… matches were played in great spirit and grimly contested – Susan with a sprained ankle, others against opponents with handicaps that were half their own.
A big thank you to all the caddies for supporting your players so well under trying circumstances, and to all team members for the camaraderie that was displayed today.
Onward and upward, I say…

Division 4 – Monday 9th May – against RPGC 3/4

Well… what a day! Everyone arrived full of life and confidence which unfortunately dwindled for a few as the day went on!!
There was some confusion regarding handicaps and slope ratings which was quite unsettling at the outset. There was also no MiScore facility for the course!
Nevertheless, the girls just plodded on magnificently. They all tried so hard and worked together as a real team, with everyone staying to the end to encourage the last players.
One highlight was Philippa on the last hole sinking a huge putt to square the match!!  Jenny Simpson and Maryanne Larson were also very good winners.

Round 1  2021 Women’s Pennant

Division 1 – Sunday 2nd May

Well done to our Division 1 team winning 5/2 against WAGC at Royal Perth played in great conditions slightly wet at beginning of round and then developed into a glorious sunny day.
The team performed very competitively with most matches going up and down all morning and having me on my toes going from one match to another (with Amanda) And eventually finished with a great win.
We all welcomed our newest team member Natalja for her first game in the team, coming through with a win 2/1.
As your NPC I was extremely happy with the efforts of you all……..

Division 2 – Monday 3rd May

Round 1 and the excitement was palpable…
There was a feeling of real ‘togetherness’ from the outset as players and their trusty caddies set off one by one.
Unfortunately, things were looking a little grim at the turn, with only two of seven players ‘up’ in their matches.
But I was so very proud to see the determination and never-say-die attitude of everyone on the team as they clawed their way back.
We came so very close to a victory over Mt Lawley… but it just wasn’t our day, and we went down 4/3!
My congratulations to a fantastic bunch of players and caddies who demonstrated all the qualities of a truly great team today.
A very proud NPC!
