Recruitment of the new General Manager
I recently provided members with an update on the recruitment process for our new General Manager. Matt Hagen from executive recruitment firm, Omera Partners visited the club and met with the Recruitment Working Group and members of the management team to learn more about the club and the develop the recruitment brief. The recruitment process has commenced and we will keep members informed.
Extraordinary General Meeting – Tuesday 20th July
Members are advised that an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) will be called shortly. The meeting will be held on July 20 and has been called to ask members to consider approving changes to the Constitution to permit the club to establish an Endowment Fund. Establishing an Endowment Fund will provide members with the option of making financial contributions to the club whether that be via the Australian Sports Foundation or directly to the club. The framework proposed can be found by clicking here.
The need to hold this EGM provides the General Committee with an opportunity to update members on other important matters including the launch of the Strategic Plan 2021-25 and updates on some important major projects including the installation of a new course reticulation system and the replacement of the clubhouse roof.
Reticulation Replacement Update
Whilst a detailed update will be provided at the EGM I can confirm that Paul Jones, a reticulation design specialist has been appointed to assist the club through the design, tender and installation phases of this important project. The club’s reticulation system is now well over 20 years old and is requiring significant repairs each year to keep it fully operational. The opportunity to replace this system will allow the club to achieve the following objectives:
- Provide significant flexibility with all sprinklers acting independently
- Materially reduce water usage
- Ensure reliability of course irrigation (eliminate breakdowns)
- Reduce ongoing maintenance costs
At this stage it is the club’s intention to proceed with the installation of the new system in mid-2022.
Roof Replacement Update
Several years ago the club commissioned a report to assess the condition of the roof and its useful life. At the time, the report indicated that the roof had an effective life of a further 5 to 7 years. The Building Committee (BC) has been requested by the General Committee to commence the process of replacing the roof. This project is very complicated and to assist the BC, architectural firm Christou Design has been commissioned to assist by preparing the design scope and relevant tender documentation.
At the time that the club went to tender for the first stage of the masterplan several years ago, Christou Design was requested to include an option for the builders to provide a price to replace the roof. The decision was taken at the time not to proceed with the replacement of the roof however much of the documentation used at that time is still relevant today.
The BC continue to work through this process and all being well the club will appoint a contractor to replace the roof later this year with a commencement date in early 2022.
It is important to note that both projects listed above will be funded through the annual Distributions from the Capital Fund and that no call on members will be required.
In concluding I would encourage you to attend the EGM as it will provide the GC with an opportunity to update members on these very important matters.
Kind regards,
Graeme Pepper – President.
