Senior Women’s 4BBB Round 7 – 16th August 2022 @ WA Golf Club

The 7th and final round of the Senior Womens 4BBB Pennants for 2022 was played at WAGC in beautiful sunshine.  It was such a lovely day, you’d be forgiven to think it wasn’t even winter. The ladies of Cottesloe have a strong team and after the first nine holes, it did not look like it was going to be our day. But Anne Richards and Kelly Harris won on the 17th, 2 up and Vicki King and Jill Green won on the 18th.  Julia Griffiths, Judy Schrape, Susie Williams and Jill Clarke unfortunately lost their games to very tough opponents. The result of a halved match was very pleasing. Well done Ladies.

We had a season of wins and loses, rain and shine, soup and sandwiches and plenty of smiles. As a team we had 2 wins, 2 loses and 2 halves, finishing 4th on the ladder overall, with all the final point scores being close.

On a personal note, I was really honoured to be Non-Playing Captain. For me, it was an opportunity to learn something new, visit different golf courses, meet new people and enjoy watching the team play golf. I would like to thank all the members of the team for being part of LKCC Senior Womens 4BBB Pennants for 2022, and I hope to see them all again next year.

Senior Women’s 4BBB Round 6 – 8th August 2022 @ Mosman Park Golf Club

It was very cold and wet for Round 6 of the Senior Women’s 4BBB Pennants, which was played at Mosman Park Golf Club. And the ladies from Nedlands GC, who are yet to lose a match, were tough competition.

Our team of Julie Burgess, Kelly Harris, Philippa Clark, Julia Griffiths, Sheila Klimczyk, Judy Schrape, Jill Green and Vicki King all played amazing golf in awful conditions.  With 2 teams finished with a win and a loss, our remaining teams battled it out to the end, finishing all squared.  Well done to our team for getting a halved match in rather trying conditions.

Final round next week, we’ll give it our best shot.

WABLGA 2022 Pennant Final 31st July

Team members and caddies travelled to Bunbury on Saturday and played a warm up 9 holes at Sanctuary Cove in the afternoon, before sharing a night of good food and camaraderie and early to bed.

We reported in the dark to Bunbury Golf Club with a pre-start briefing at 7.00 am and tee off at 7:30 am against Royal Perth.  The weather was iffy, raining lightly on and off. The course was sodden in the catchment areas.

The results

Wendy Naude in fifth position had to give her opponent 10 shots, well done Wendy for your 2 up win!   Martine Keenan, closely matched in handicap, lost 4/2; Judy O’Rourke lost 5/4; Sharon Cork got 3 shots in a great match – Sharon won 2 up;  Georgie Wynne lost 6/5.

As Captain, I’m very proud that the team (including Sandy Spence, Sheila Klimczyk and Kate Rennie) attained top position in the Green Division and we won the chance to play for the Pennant.  This is an improvement on last year when we finished fourth in the final.

Also a very big thank you to the caddies – Glenda Kay, Robin Challenor, Kate and Jan Rennie, Phil Keenan and Judy O’Rourke.

Thank you to our Club and Members for supporting us.

We look forward to 2023!

Dy Fripp – Captain 2022

Senior Women’s 4BBB Round 4 – 25th July 2022 @ Sea View Golf Club

Round 4 of the Senior Womens 4BBB Pennants was played at Sea View Golf Course, which certainly lives up to its name. This South of the River girl enjoyed the 180 degree view of the Indian Ocean. How lucky are we to live in such a beautiful part of the world?

Julie Burgess, Philippa Clark, Julia Griffiths, Sue Elstone, Jill Clarke, Susie Williams, Jill Green and Vicki King all put in an amazing effort against the ladies of WAGC. None of our team had played at Sea View before, proving to be a little challenging at times. Most games were close so the result could have gone either way but unfortunately we lost, 2 1/2 to 1 1/2.
We have the bye next week, so we will all enjoy a well earned sleep in.

Senior Women’s 4BBB Round 3 – 18th July 2022 @ Nedlands Golf Club

The tight fairways and bunker protected, small greens at Nedlands Golf Club, presented quite the challenge to our team this week. The threat of a thunderstorm didn’t help either. And movement around the nine hole course was, at times, confusing.
Our team of Sheila Klimczyk, Kelly Harris, Sue Elstone, Judy Schrape, Susie Williams, Jill Clarke, Jill Green and Vicki King bounced back from the loss last week and was victorious, winning 2 1/2 to 1 1/2.
Fabulous playing by all, Congratulations!

WABLGA – Round 3 – Sunday 17th July @ Royal Perth GC

On Sunday 17th July the LKCC team, Georgie Wynne, Sharon Cork, Kate Rennie, Wendy Naude and Sandy Spence, squared with The Vines 2 at Royal Perth Golf Club.

The conditions were wet and the matches very close. Georgie’s approach shot to the 18th green pressured her opponent  who needed a birdie to win the match. Georgie sunk her one metre putt, parring the hole and winning 1 up!

We have a very important match to play this Sunday, 24th July against Bunbury at Mt Lawley Golf Club teeing off at 12:30 pm.  A win will secure us the opportunity to play for the pennant in the final against the top team in the Gold Division!

As they say, watch this space ….

Dy Fripp – Pennant Captain

WABLGA – Round 3 – Sunday 10th July @ Mandurah

We’re very pleased with the result of our third pennant match against WAGC at Mandurah.  The team knuckled down and won 4/1!

There was lots of determination and the matches were closely fought.

Well done team, Judy O’Rourke, Martine Keenan, Sheila Klimczyk, Georgie Wynne and Wendy Naude.

This Sunday we play The Vines 2 at Royal Perth Golf Club at 8:00 am.

Dy Fripp – Pennant Captain

Senior Women’s 4BBB Pennants – Rd 2  Monday  11 July 2022

Round 2 of Senior Women’s 4BBB Pennants was played at Royal Fremantle Golf Club. A tough course for those who hadn’t played there before.

Philippa Clark, Julia Griffiths, Judy Schrape, Sue Elstone, Jill Clarke, Susie Williams, Jill Green and Vicki King all played their best in some very closely contested matches. It was a solid effort from everyone, especially those that were 4 down and still managed to get to the 18th hole. We were unfortunate to lose to Seaview GC, 2 1/2 to 1 1/2.

Never mind, we look forward to next week at Nedlands GC.

Senior Women’s 4BBB Pennants – Rd 1  Monday 4 July 2022

It was a cold, chilly morning at Cottesloe Golf Club for Round 1 of Ladies Senior Pennants of 2022.
But the sun was shining and so were our team of Sheila Klimczyk, Philippa Clark, Sue Elstone, Judy Schrape, Julia Griffiths, Susie Williams, Jill Green and Vicki King, bringing home a 3/1 win against the ladies of Royal Fremantle.

Well done to all and what a great start to the season!

Ali Leahy
Non-Playing Captain.

WABLGA – Round 2 – Sunday 3rd July @ The Vines

We were very fortunate to have beautiful weather on the 3rd July and a fabulous 4/1 win against Royal Fremantle Golf Club.
From L to R, Wendy Naude, Georgie Wynne, Sandy Spence, Martine Keenan and Sharon Cork.

Dy Fripp – Pennant Captain.

Division One Pennant Finals, June 27 at Mandurah CC against Mt Lawley

The last time a Division One team competed in a Pennant final was in 2017. Congratulations to the team for making the finals. This is an outstanding achievement. Although the team put in a valiant effort in yesterday’s finals played at Mandurah CC, top qualifier Mt Lawley prevailed.

The finals team was: Jennifer Herbst, Sheridan Clancy, Jodie Benney, Joanne Ford, Lina Cui, Isobel Dorrington and Georgia Garner Dart.

This year Division One had a short season with only 5 rounds, including a home round. Our first round was a very tough one, against Mt Lawley’s junior team at Mt Lawley. The second contest against WAGC and was nail bitingly close. We had our first win in round 3 against Fremantle and then again, the following week in our home match against Cottesloe. Going into the final round WAGC, RPGC and Lake Karrinyup all had a chance to make the finals against top qualifier, Mt Lawley, with LKCC making the finals by one match.

To make the Division one team requires an extraordinary amount of commitment. This year the team welcomed newcomers, Lina Cui, Isobel Dorrington, Judy Malone, and Tracy Silbert, who thought she was coming to caddy but due to a covid diagnosis on the morning of the contest, ended up playing.

I’d like to specially mention Robyn Lamb who couldn’t compete in the last two matches due to injury. We wish you well Robyn and hope to see you competing again soon. Also, Carmen Palframan, who played every match, bar the finals, and ended the season undefeated. Carmen is currently competing over east attempting to secure sufficient ranking points to qualify for the 2022 Australian Senior Team and we wish her well.

It was an honour and privilege to be your Non-Playing Captain.

Congratulations to the Division One Pennant Team: Jennifer Herbst, Sheridan Clancy, Carmen Palframan, Robyn Lamb, Georgia Garner Dart, Jo Ford, Lina Cui, Isobel Dorrington, Judy Malone and Jodie Benney.

Division 2 – 20th June – LKCC Vs The Vines @ Mt Lawley

After three weeks break, we returned for our last pennant game for the season at Mt Lawley against The Vines. We were fortunate to play in beautiful golf conditions of clear skies and little wind. Vastly better conditions than the previous few days. Our team changed quite a bit during the week with injuries, covid and unavailability in Div 1 and 2.

Last week at LKCC, The Vines had a win, so came into the game with great confidence. And from the start put pressure on us with straight shots, a good short game and good putting. We had our most convincing loss for the season with a 7 -0. Judy Malone had the closest game playing to the 18th. We also welcomed Jill Dorrington to her first game in Div 2.

Interestingly the winning teams in this round all won by large margins, 6-1, 7-0 and 7-0. So after their win against us, The Vines will be playing in the final next week against the undefeated Joondalup. LKCC Div 2 team ended up fifth on the ladder.

The team comprised: Judy Malone, Tracey Silbert, Jan King, Abi Williams, Anne Marie Tsaknis, Jane Abbott. Jill Dorrington and reserve Marianne Larson. With great support from the caddies –  Marie Intini, Danielle Hyde, Julie Griffiths, David Lewis, Anne Richards, Susan Teo, and Marianne Larson.

Round 7 – Division 4 Pennants – June 20th

This was the final round for Division 4, and LKCC were hosting so had a bye. Many thanks to the Team members who helped with hosting duties.

The Course was in splendid condition and much admired by the visiting Teams.

After closely contested matches, WAGC were the winners of the Division 4 Pennant with 10 points, Royal Fremantle GC second with 9 points and LKCC third with 7 points.

The LKCC Team have had a wonderful season, playing with great integrity and demonstrating close camaraderie and mutual support within the group.

Many thanks to all the players and caddies who participated this year.

Best wishes to our Division 1 Team in their final this Sunday.

We will Walk Tall in 2023!

Round 6 Division 4 Pennants, LKCC v Royal Fremantle GC at Wanneroo – Sunday 13th June

After several days of threatening weather, our Division 4 Team comprising Julie Cawthray, Susan Zhang, Judy O’Rourke, Mandy O’Shea, Kim Cook, Shiralee McCracken and Felicity Peters, with Paula White as reserve, played their last round in beautiful conditions at Wanneroo GC.

Strongly supported by caddies Susan Teo, Sally Cheng, Anne Marie Tsaknis, Alison Leahy, Brodie Cook, Cass Winton and Julia Griffiths the Team faced very determined players from Royal Fremantle GC.

Despite some tightly fought matches with magnificent drives and spectacular putting by the LKCC players, Royal Fremantle were in fantastic form and won 5/2.

All season the matches have been played with great sportsmanship and the LKCC uniform worn with pride.

Next week the final round is being hosted at LKCC and we look forward to reciprocating the wonderful hospitality that we have enjoyed.

Congratulations to all the Division 4 players and caddies who have represented LKCC this season— golf skills have strengthened and fabulous friendships have been forged, and we have “Walked Tall”!   Roll on 2023!

Division 4 Round 5 – Monday 30th May – LKCC vs RPGC @ Lakelands

After last week’s disappointing washout, the very enthusiastic Division 4 Team arrived in freezing cold at Lakelands to play Royal Perth GC! As the morning warmed up and layers of thermals were shed, surrounded by grazing horses and market gardens, the Team rose to the challenge. Several matches went to the 18th hole, and in a nail-biting finish, LKCC won 4 1/2 matches to 2 1/2 to retain our place at the top of the ladder.

Following lots of brilliant results during the week and resultant handicap changes, this week’s Team was Julie Cawthray, Judy O’Rourke, Kim Cook, Amanda Lekias, Mandy O’Shea, Maryanne Larsen and Felicity Peters, with Jenny Simpson in reserve. Our caddies provided huge moral support, and thanks go to Judy Schrape, Ainslie Cartwright, Jenny Simpson, Ali Leahy, Sue Elstone and Mike Lekias.

We have a week off due to the Long Weekend, then play our last match at Wanneroo on June 13th before hosting the final round at LKCC on June 20th.

So hopefully the Team will be energised by the break and be in fine form for our final round against Royal Fremantle.

Walk Tall LKCC!

Division 2 – Monday 30th May – LKCC Vs Joondalup @ Wanneroo

It was a sunny but very cold start to our game at Wanneroo. Our team played the top of the table team Joondalup, who have won all their matches convincingly 6/1 and 7/0 and had players with plus handicaps and nearly all others in single figures. We were primed to focus on our own game, and to try not to be influenced by our opponent’s game. More easily said than done. In spite of our non-playing captain’s encouragement only one of us was able to get over the line.

Congratulations to Jane Abbott, who brought in a decisive win of 5/4. Jane had been ably supported by caddy extraordinaire – Carmen Palframan. So our final score was 1 and 6.

This week’s team comprised: Jodie Benny, Tracey Silbert, Jan King, Anne Marie Tsaknis, Cass Winton, Abi Williams, Jane Abbott and reserve Angie Somic. With great support from the caddies –  Di Gillard, Danielle Hyde, Julie Griffiths, Angie Somic, David Lewis, Anne Kofoed, and Carmen Palframan.

We have a three week break, long weekend and a bye, before our last game on 20 June against The Vines at Mt Lawley. Hopefully we will rebound.

Division 1 – Lake Karrinyup defeated Royal Fremantle at RPGC – Sunday 29th May

The Division One team had their first win of the season with a 5 matches to 2 win against Royal Fremantle at Royal Perth on Sunday. The conditions were beautiful and the team made the most of them. It was fantastic to see some Lake Karrinyup supporters out to cheer us on. We are now in 4th place on the ladder.

The team was Carmen Palframan, Robyn Lamb, Georgia Garner-Dart, Isobel Dorrington, Joanne Ford, Lina Cui and Judy Malone.

Division 2 – 23rd May LKCC Vs Royal Perth @ Mandurah

Those who played in Mandurah last year said how difficult it was to play in the stormy conditions. Who says history doesn’t repeat itself. The forecast was for up to 50 ml of rain and strong winds. And it was every bit the case.

Four of the team started before the lightning. The siren went and players waited out on the course under as much cover as they could find. Some time later the siren went again and all players returned to the clubhouse where the captains met and agreed to cancel the round, meaning all teams would receive a point. As the greens were completely flooded even before the next front arrived, it was the inevitable decision.

After a covid case in division 1, the reserve Tracey Silbert was required to play on Sunday and so was unable to play division 2. Two other players had to pull out so at short notice our in-form ‘non-playing’ Captain was co-opted as was our Captain.

Many thanks to Jan King for inviting everyone in the team to stay at her beach house in Falcon. Anne Marie and Jane much appreciated Jan’s hospitality. It was a lovely evening.

This week’s team comprised: Peta Roberts, Jan King, Anne Marie Tsaknis, Jane Abbott, Susan Zhang, Billie Hadfield and Amanda Lekias. We were to play with no caddies.

Next week we head to Wanneroo to play top of the table Joondalup.

Division 2 – 16th May LKCC 3 Vs Mt Lawley 4 @ The Vines

It was a sunny but cold start to our game at The Vines due to the very strong easterlies. Jodie had another great game with a strong win. Abbie was able to draw on her experience from her old club and have a win. Cass also had a great win. The other games were very close with a couple of 1 downs and a game taken to the 19th hole. Unfortunately our run of 4/3 wins was reversed to a 3 / 4 loss. It is amazing how close match play results can be, both at the individual and team level.

This week’s team comprised: Jodie Benny, Tracey Silbert, Jan King, Anne Marie Tsaknis, Cass Winton, Abi Williams, Jane Abbott and reserve Susan Zhang. With great support from the caddies –  Di Gillard, Danielle Hyde, Sally Cheng, Anne Kofoed, David Lewis, Susan Teo and Susan Zhang.

Next week we head to Mandurah to play Royal Perth.

Division 1, Round 2 – LKCC vs WAGC at Cottesloe Golf Club  – Sunday 22nd May

The team put up a terrific fight against WAGC with some very close matches. Whilst we lost 4 matches to 3, five of our matches went to the 18 hole or further. Well done to all players and caddies.

Division 4 Pennants Report— Week 4

This week our enthusiastic Division 4 Team headed to Royal Perth GC to play Lakelands GC. After a delayed start due to torrential rain, and much consultation with the RPGC Officials, the teams began play on the Par 3 14th hole, with all our team hitting magnificent tee shots. Our Team was reduced to 5 players as 2 from Lakelands had forfeited.

Unfortunately, the lightning sirens sounded soon after and play was abandoned, so all matches were cancelled and points shared.

This week’s Team was: Jill Dorrington, Judy O’Rourke, Julie Cawthray, Mandy O’Shea, Kim Cook, Paula White and Felicity Peters. Our wonderful Caddies were: Ainslie Cartwright, Maryanne Larsen, Susan Teo, Judy Schrape, Julia Griffiths and Ali Leahy.

Next week we play at Lakelands against Royal Perth.

Division 4 Pennants Week 3

This week the Division 4 Team headed to Royal Fremantle GC, which was in beautiful condition after the WA Open and still prepped with lightning-fast greens!

Despite some comical putting moments by players from all teams, LKCC managed to secure a 5/2 win against a dogged Wanneroo Team. There were some spectacular scores, and Paula’s 8/6 victory was a standout amongst many!

The camaraderie and team spirit in the Division 4 Team is outstanding.

Next week we head to Royal Perth and look forward to another challenging fixture.

Sue Elstone, Non Playing Captain

Division 1 – Round 1 – LKCC vs Mt Lawley at Mt Lawley, Sunday May 15

Mt Lawley’s team of juniors were in top form at their home club on a cool Sunday morning. The Lake Karrinuyp team fought valiantly but lost the contest 5 matches to 2. We welcomed new Division 1 players Lina Cui and Isobel Dorrington to the team.

The team consisted of Sheridan Clancy, Georgia Garner-Dart, Robyn Lamb, Carmen Palframan, Jo Ford, Isobel Dorrington, Lina Cui and Judy Malone as reserve. They were supported by caddies, Andy Garner-Dart, Tracy Silbert, Jane Abbott, Mary Clare MacConnell, Ian Dorrington and Tony Li.

Division 2 – 9th May LKCC 4 def Wanneroo 3 @ Joondalup

Round two was played in beautiful sunshine, no wind and another perfect day for golf. We were to play the Quarry course with all the challenges that were presented to us at the recent Joondalup Classic in February. We arrived to find that we were to play The Dunes and the Lakes courses. We had another round when Division 1 did not play so we were able to play Judy and Jodie. This was greatly appreciated as we were playing Wanneroo’s first team. We welcomed Cass Winton into the team, for her first Div 2 game, who brought a win for the team. As is our habit, we are having very competitive games. Our 4/3 win was only sealed by the last player on the 18th  green.

This week’s team comprised: Judy Malone, Jodie Benny, Tracey Silbert, Jan King, Anne Marie Tsaknis, Jane Abbott, Cass Winton and reserve Jo Ford. With great support from the caddies –  Marie Intini, Jo Ford, Danielle Hyde, Vicki King, Anne Richards, Judy O’Rourke and Anne Kofoed.

Next we head to The Vines to play Mt Lawley.

Division 4 Pennants Round 2

This week Division 4 players teed off on another beautiful, sunny morning at Mt Lawley GC playing the WAGC Team starting at the 5th hole.

Our Team was Susan Zhang, Jill Dorrington, Shiralee McCracken, Mandy O’Shea, Kim Cook, Jenny Simpson and Felicity Peters. The matches were fiercely contested in friendly rivalry and the final score of 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 definitely did not reflect the skilful play by the LKCC Team!

The Caddies, Lina Cui, Ainslie Cartwright, Paula White, Alison Leahy, Jeremy Cook, Julia Griffiths and our debutante Judy Schrape, all provided valuable experience and support.

Next week we are playing Wanneroo at Royal Fremantle GC.

Well played Team!

Sue Elstone NPC

Division 2 – Monday 2nd May – LKCC 4 def Mandurah 3 @ Royal Perth Golf Club

Our first game of the season was held in beautiful sunny conditions – perfect for golf. Royal Perth put on their usual fast greens. As Div 1 had a bye we were able to draw on some of our Div 1 players, so our team had a wealth of experience and some Royal Perth local knowledge. We also welcomed a new player Abby Williams to Division 2. We had some amazing wins with Judy Malone leading the charge with a 7 and 6 win. The 3 matches that went down were competitive being played to the last few holes. Our team won 4 and 3.

This week’s Team comprised: Judy Malone, Jodie Benny, Tracey Silbert, Susan Teo, Jan King, Anne Marie Tsaknis, Abby Williams and reserve Angie Somic. With great support from the caddies –  Marie Intini, Di Gillard, Lina Cui, Danielle Hyde, Susan Zhang, Angie Somic and David Lewis

Next week we head to Joondalup to play Wanneroo.

Week 1 Division 4 Pennants @ WAGC

Our intrepid Division 4 Team started the season in glorious Autumnal conditions at WAGC against Mt Lawley. Starting on the challenging 9th hole, with a lake to clear, the

Players rose to the occasion and after a few early nerves, settled into steady form.

This week’s Team comprised: Jill Dorrington, Amanda Lekias, Maryanne Larsen, Julie Cawthray, Mandy O’Shea, Jenny Simpson and Kim Cook, with Shiralee McCracken as reserve.

After many hard-fought matches, and with great support from the Caddies— Ainslie Cartwright, Robyn Baumanis, Barb Marinovich, Ali Leahy, Julia Griffiths, Felicity Peters and Shiralee McCracken the Team finished with a convincing 5 1/2— 1 1/2 win.

We now look forward to playing WAGC in Round 2 at Mt Lawley next week.

Well done LKCC!!!
