Wednesday June 25 saw the annual Rose Bowl Women’s Challenge between Cottesloe Golf Club and Lake Karrinyup Country Club. 25 pairs from each club arrived at our course early in morning where, thankfully the sun was shining, although it was still a chilly 8 degrees. There was a general buzz of conversation as many caught up with acquaintances, partners and team members.

The Rose Bowl Challenge is a very popular one and if you don’t get your names in on time there is a good chance that you may miss out. Canadian Foursomes is the game played and particularly appropriate as it is quick while allowing all to drive of the tee on every hole. While the Cottesloe course looked superb and the greens ran beautifully, many of our LKCC players commented on the challenge of playing on kikuyu grass—a surface we’re not as familiar with. This gave the home team a clear edge, and Cottesloe were deserving winners, reclaiming the Bowl after last year’s contest at Lake Karrinyup.

Despite the result, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day of competitive yet friendly golf, a wonderful lunch, and the chance to connect across clubs. Playing on each other’s courses adds to the spirit of the event, and the camaraderie between clubs is what continues to make the Rose Bowl so special.
Our thanks to Cottesloe for their warm hospitality and to everyone who contributed to the day, especially their Captain Jane Metcalf and the Women’s Committee—with a special mention to Jean Hay for managing all the last-minute details so smoothly.
