2025 WINTER CUP

The 2025 Winter Cup certainly lived up to its name, with incredibly wet conditions testing 104 players on Sunday 10 August. Traditionally contested over 36 holes of par, the winner earns their name on the perpetual Winter Cup.

This year, however, an early call was made the night before to cancel the morning round due to a large amount of forecast rain — a decision that proved wise. Heavy overnight showers left the greens flooded at daylight, with more rain around 10am causing further temporary water.

The afternoon round began on waterlogged greens, making pace control difficult, until the winter sun gradually dried them out. Many players found it challenging to get the ball to the hole for those elusive pluses, with only a small number managing to finish above handicap, including Mark Colthart (+1) and Phil Grice (+2).

A good way to get an advantage on the field is to go even with the card through our famous finishing stretch of the two lengthy Par 4’s and the long Par 3 in the 16, 17 and 18 holes. This is exactly what Logan Innes did on Sunday afternoon, not feeling any pressure on the day or residual pressure after winning the Men’s Jubilee Foursomes earlier in April this year with his partner Paul Duffy.

Logan Innes finished the afternoon with a score of +2 which was good enough to take victory over the Vice-President Phil Grice on countback. Congratulations to Logan on winning the 2025 Winter Cup, taking a second victory in a major this year.
