Karrinyup Cup and Club Dinner

One of the biggest days on the Lake Karrinyup calendar took place on Saturday the 1st of August. The 2015 Karrinyup Cup and Club Dinner was once again well supported with 256 members competing over the morning and afternoon field and 183 members in attendance for dinners.

The Karrinyup Cup is one of the most sought after titles at Lake Karrinyup with all of the members teeing it up on the Saturday stroke competition desperate to have their name etched on this piece of club history. It is a notable condition of entry that the winner must be pre booked and in attendance at the club dinner.

This year’s event produced an extremely worthy winner in John Wallace who fired an excellent score of 70 off of a handicap of Scratch and won the title on a countback. John’s round was the equal best of the day with Tony King, Richard Dandridge and Brendan Milburn who also posted rounds of nett 70. This was John’s second win in the event with his previous victory coming in 1988.

The North Course event was won by Michael Hollingdale who had a score of nett 57 to narrowly win over Barry Joyce.

The day’s golf was followed by the annual Club Dinner. This is a black tie event which is one of the highlights of the year for members. It is also a chance to acknowledge past winners of the Karrinyup Cup, Past Presidents of the Club and also those members who have reached the remarkable milestone of 50 years of membership with the club. This year one member joined this exclusive club, Mr Walter Pidgeon joined Lake Karrinyup in 1965, Walter is still a regular player on the Main Course and a much respected member of the Club.

The traditional entrance into the dinner is one of the unique features of the night with the piper playing throughout the main bar and ultimately leading the crown from the main bar into the dining room. The Whiskey bar and two up are also highlights of the night and are well supported by those in attendance.
