A Fabulous Melbourne Cup Day

Over 220 members and their guests enjoyed a fabulous day out at the Club for the race that stops a nation – the Melbourne Cup.  The champagne was flowing out on the Terrace leading up to the big race with plenty of sweeps being sold to the cheerful crowd.  Everyone watched in anticipation as the race commenced at midday with the very popular female jockey Michelle Payne coming in first place on Prince of Penzance.

A delightful 3 course meal was prepared by chef Dean and his team and the wine and bubbles were enjoyed throughout the afternoon.

The fashions on the field didn’t disappoint either!  Andrew van der Meer took out the Best Dressed Male award in what was simply an amazing technicolour dreamcoat of sorts.  Vice President John Hanly, Captain Con Barron, Committeeman Evan Campbell and the team from Admin had some tough decisions to make with so many people going to so much effort!  The lovely Bindi O’Brien was the winner of the Best Dressed Female prize with Jen Rewell deservedly winning the Best Hat/Fascinator prize in a gorgeous creation made by Jen herself.  Ian Goddard stuck to the “fillys” theme in a marvellous tie resembling a gorgeous lady in a pink feathered hat, taking out the Best Tie award.  Vanessa Pouch was the lucky winner who drew the lucky Quinella Ticket winnning $200!

A big thank you to Tarn Hede who was presented with some champagne & chocolates for her efforts in decorating the room leading up to the big day and for rustling up a total of 49 ladies who had what may well be the longest table at a club function.

Thanks also goes to the food & beverage team for such great service all day and the admin team for arranging the popular sweeps!
