Alex Monteath recognised for service to WA Golf Industry
Our very own Alex Monteath was the proud recipient of the WA Golf Industry Recognition Award at the awards night on the 11th March. See below for the full details from the night.
This prestigious award is bestowed on a person in recognition of their enormous contribution to the game of Golf in Western Australia and importantly their positive impact on and improvement to the golfing industry. This year’s winner is one who is highly regarded and respected in all areas of the industry. Alex Monteath is a born and bred Western Australian starting life in the Mosman Park area. Alex spent a number of years early in his career as General Manager of the Three Springs Hospital combined with his duties as the Honorary Secretary of Three Springs Golf Club. It was only when a Three Springs farmer approached Alex and mentioned there was a job going as Managing Secretary at Royal Perth Golf Club that Alex’s career path would divert into golf. Alex was Managing Secretary of Royal Perth for 3 years before taking the role at Lake Karrinyup Country Club….where he spent 27 years. During his career Alex has been well regarded as a welcoming and engaging person who did not disregard anyone and was always happy to take a call and offer advice or support without question. Alex’s service to Golf Management Australia is exemplary……

- President of GMA WA for 19 years
- Delegate to the Federal Council for 19 years
- Federal President for 4 years
- Life Member of GMA National and GMA WA
Alex was also awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000. Alex is a family man with a wonderful supportive wife of 57 years in Sandra. They have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. Sandra did comment that she was left with the kids most weekends due to Alex’s work commitments. Alex was by no means an elite golfer, but does lay claim to attaining a single figure handicap…..his lowest being 9. Unfortunately and much to his annoyance Sandra was always slightly better….playing off a 7 at the time. Alex is the epitome of a true gentleman and is widely regarded and respected in the golf industry for his honest and welcoming nature. It is befitting that Alex Monteath should receive the WA Golf Industry Recognition Award.
