The Lake Karrinyup women’s pennant team continues to roll on, winning their fourth straight contest of the season to take outright first place in Division 1 of Women’s Pennants.
Facing Mount Lawley in a contest between two unbeaten sides at Mandurah Country Club, Carmen Palfaman (1up), Jennifer Herbst (3&1), Peta Robers (21st), Catherine Witherow (1up) and Maddi Baxter (4&3) all secured wins for the defending champions as they prevailed 5-2.
The win ensured Lake Karrinyup’s unbeaten run will stretch over an incredible three year period, with their last loss coming in Round 2 2013, on May the 27th against Royal Fremantle.
Since then LKCC have put together two consecutive 6-0 seasons, and have won the opening four matches of their 2016 campaign. Coupled with wins from their last four matches in 2013, their streak sits at 20 straight contests.
Playing as Lake Karrinyup’s number 1, Sharon Dawson had the unenviable task of facing the in-form Hannah Green. It was a blockbuster contest with Dawson the current Australian and NZ Seniors champion and Green Australia’s number 1 ranked golfer.
Through 11 holes the pair were all square, but a birdie, birdie par finish for Green over Dawson’s closing holes of birdie, par, par were enough to secure the match 3&2.
“I think we both really enjoyed it, Hannah played really well and I was pleased with my efforts too,” said Dawson after the match.
“It was lovely to be able to keep up with her, I might not be able to keep up hit it as long as she does but we had a tight match once we got onto the greens.”
Dawson was delighted to see that her result didn’t affect her team’s overall chances, as Lake Karrinyup’s streak continued.
With seven pennant titles from the last nine seasons, Dawson paid tribute to her teammates and the support they get from the club.
“We work very strongly on team bonding and will support our fellow players no matter what,” said Dawson.![Dawson-3[1]](http://www.lkcc.com.au/cms/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Dawson-31-300x216.jpg)
“If there’s a match going down to the 19th and there’s only one out there the other six players and their caddies will be out there supporting that player.
“That’s just one example as we work well in a lot of areas including pre-season, where all pennant players are involved from Division 1 and 2 to the Business Associates and Northern Suburban players. It ensures we have a strong depth of players to select from and we’re always putting our best side out there.”
Dawson paid credit to Club Captain Catherine Witherow, who not only won her match 1up but plays a large part in organising the side.
“Cath has a good handle on all of the juniors coming through, and does great work with all divisions to ensure we have good depth and strong players coming up. It all builds our players up to ensures they can be contributors wherever they are playing.”
