Congratulations!

Congratulations to our Division 2 Pennant team who bought home the flag on Sunday 31st July, beating Mt Lawley at WAGC in a nailbiter.  This earns our team a promotion into Division 1 after nearly 20 years of relegation.

Team captain Nick Curnow is delighted to see the club finally break their duck.

“It’s huge, we’ve had so many training sessions building up to this over the years and the club’s really built up a good culture with quite a few juniors coming through,” said Curnow, who also captained the WA state team in 2016.

“We’ve had a really strong team in Division 2 the last few years, and it’s a tough competition as it’s so hard to get out of it.”

Curnow dropped his match 1up to Mount Lawley’s Michael Montgomery — and he listed his opponent, as well as a handful of other players, as a reason why the Division 2 competition is so strong.

“In Division 2 there are so many guys like Haydn Barron (WAGC), Simon Liddell (LKCC) and Michael Montgomery (MLGC) — so there are a lot of great players outside of the top tier.”

At number 1, Liddell was beaten 1up by Jordan Doull, a WA junior representative, while the newly promoted The Vines will bring up state player Ben Ferguson and state junior player Tip Snowden from Division three.

“When I look at the other teams there’s so much quality there, but going to Division 1 we won’t be looking to just make up the numbers. If you look at the team we have four guys under 20 so they’ll all be a year better and the rest of us will be practicing to improve too.

“It’s just such a close competition, like today when we were in a great spot early but Mount Lawley came back strong.

“It came down to one match with Alex Allcock winning on the last. He probably didn’t realise how important it was as Simon and I were in strong positions earlier, but it’s a credit to him. He plays really well under pressure, he missed a couple games early in the season but he found his form and got us over the line.

Well done to everyone involved from all the staff and members of Lake Karrinyup Country Club and well done to Team Manager Steve Moloney also.
