Men’s Club Championship Finals

The Finals for the 2016 Club Championships were held on Sunday the 23rd  October. There were some fantastic match ups across all grades which provided some stimulating golf throughout the day.

This year the Championship match was to be contested between two very exciting players – Nick Curnow & Frazer Bone. The ever consistent Frazer Bone and Pennant & State Team Captain Nick Curnow were both in excellent form leading into the final and this was well and truly displayed throughout their highly competitive match. Both players played some solid golf throughout the morning with Nick making birdies at the 10th, 11th & 14th to stretch to 4 up through 15 Holes.  However, 2 late birdies by Frazer on the difficult 16th & 18th Holes saw the match only in Nicks favour at 2 up at the halfway point. After lunch the match was very tight with Nick winning the 19th but Fraser answering winning the 20th & 21st with regulation Pars to only be down by the slimmest of margins at 1 down.  This seemed to fire up Nick Curnow and with a Par good enough to win the 24th he continued to build a comfortable lead with birdies on the 25th ,26th, 28th which proved insurmountable with Nick eventually tapping in to win the Championship match 5 & 4.

In the Championship Plate match with young gun Matt Bowra won out against Todd Gault in a match which saw some solid play from both players. The club camaraderie and sportsmanship was well and truly displayed throughout the championships with all matches being played in a great spirit.
