Entertaining Forecaddies with Sam Newman

On Friday 19th May, retired Aussie Rules football legend and TV personality, Sam Newman entertained over 180 members and their guests.  The day began with Voyage Estate Winemaker Travis Lemm providing an insight into the history and happenings of the popular Margaret River vineyard.  Together with some lovely wines complementing the scrumptious 3 course meal that Chef Dean Williams and his team prepared.

Sam kept the crowd amused with his stories from his 300 game football career with the Geelong Football Club all the way through to his successful TV career, mostly known for his antics on the AFL Footy Show.  He has some great stories to tell about his good mates including the late Lou Richards, Bill Brownless, Polly Farmer and many more legends of VFL/AFL football.  He also wasn’t shy about talking about the time his girlfriend ran him over whilst driving his Porsche after an argument … even the plastic surgery got a mention.  Sam bought along a signed Geelong jumper (the old stripe) together with a signed and framed picture of himself as he took the mark of the year in 1967.  Both items were auctioned at the luncheon and over $1,800 was raised towards Prostate Cancer, a cause close to Sam being a patient treated for this in 2008.

A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all the ladies and gentlemen present.
