Proposed New Constitution and Extraordinary General Meeting

In 2017 the General Committee resolved that it was necessary to review the Constitution to simplify the language to make it easier to use and for members to read and understand. The opportunity to revise the Constitution for this purpose also allowed the General Committee to consider other changes which are more reflective of Members’ expectations in 2019 and provide greater clarity around important issues such as more flexible methods for voting.

Early in the review process the General Committee became aware of requirements within the new Associations Incorporation Act which came in to effect in 2016 and it was then determined to combine those mandatory changes required within the Act with those changes mentioned above. It was agreed that to make all of the required changes to the existing Constitution was problematic and therefore a new document was created.

This process, which has been undertaken by a Working Group comprising members Michael Lewis and Michael Hollingdale and General Manager Damon Lonnie, has been very detailed with consultation with various members, subcommittees and the General Committee along with independent advice received from Clubs WA. At a recent planning meeting, the Draft “New Constitution” was presented to the General Committee who ultimately endorsed it.

Critical to the process is the feedback from members and we are now pleased to provide the following documents for your consideration and review:

It is important to note that those changes required by the Act must be in place prior to July 1 so an Extraordinary General Meeting will be called shortly for March/April this year.  A decision is yet to be made on how the Resolution/s to adopt the draft “New Constitution” will be put to Members, however this will be explained at the information session.

In the interim the General Committee requests that you review the documents attached and provide any feedback to Damon Lonnie via email at damon@lkcc.com.au. An information night at which any key issues can be discussed will be held on Tuesday 26th February 2019 at 6.30pm.

Yours sincerely,

Con Barron
President.
