250 gentlemen in their dinner suits mingled in the bar for pre-dinner drinks prior to being led through to the dining room by our Piper. This was quite a moment to experience and rather unique too. Captain Ralph Gibson thanked the Piper and called on Vice-President Geoff Anderson to say Grace to the 170 men seated in the dining room and 80 in the bistro who had a live stream video of the formalities. A special mention was made to the first timers attending the Club Dinner, including a dozen of our new Transitional members.
Following a delicious and colourful entree, the Captain asked for everyone to be upstanding as he called upon Vice-Captain Phil Grice to propose the Loyal Toast. Presentations then took place with the above-mentioned winners receiving their prizes from the Captain, with both Stephen and Jason giving very humble and lovely speeches. 4 members were eligible for their 50 years of membership presentation this year – Tony Lennon, Jim Crockett, Doug Craig and Peter Collins (apology). Peter’s apology was read out by President, Graeme Pepper and Tony, Jim and Doug all gave fabulous speeches. Graeme also acknowledged all of the past Presidents who were in attendance at the dinner – John Dorrington (1983 – 1984), Albert Tognolini (1985 – 1986), Rob Meadows (1993,1994,1995), Ian Marshall (1996 – 1997), Barry Barr (2000 – 2001), Peter Davies (2006 – 2007), Ian Crockett (2008 – 2009), John Hopkins (2010 – 2011), Jim Crockett (2014 – 2015), John Hanly (2016 – 2017) and Con Barron (2018-2019). Apologies were received from Ross Walker (1989 – 1990), Jack Oswald (2002 – 2003) and Chris Carey (2012 – 2013).
Dinner was served, the Whiskey Bar opened and a great evening full of tradition and camaraderie was had by all. Congratulations to all players who received accolades for the event.
