With our Opening Days now behind us and the golfing season well and truly in full swing, we are delighted to publish photos of all the winners of these prestigious events.
Locksley Hall – Mixed Opening Day
On Saturday 6th March, 128 ladies and gentlemen took part is the Locksley Hall Trophy. This esteemed event is traditionally a Mixed Canadian Foursomes format and was inaugurated in the early 50’s. The McKellar Halls won the first ever Opening Day in 1930 and some 20 years later Reg or “Locksley” which was his pseudonym donated the original silver cups back to the Club, hence the name of this major event.
This year, our Vice-Captain, Stephen Moloney and Sharon Cork (who recently joined the Club), won this event with a great score of 70.375. Close behind them with a score of 70.5, the runners up were Cam Gillard and Peta Roberts. NTP’s on the 5th, 8th, 12th and 17th were Jodie Pieters, Graeme Pepper, Wendy Naude and Rob Morrison respectively. Presentations took place in the main bar and a delightful dinner was enjoyed by everyone in the dining room, along with a lot of moves on the dance floor with a DJ playing some tunes. Well done to all who took part in this first of the Opening Days for 2021.
Daisy Savage Bowl – Ladies’ Opening Day
To give you some history of this premiere event, in 1928, Daisy Savage was invited by Keith Barker, the Lake Karrinyup Country Club Captain, to become a Foundation Member of the club. She was elected the first Lady Captain at LKCC in 1930. After WWII, when the Club was returned to the members, Daisy worked very hard on the social side to make the Club popular once again. In 1955, she handed down her Foundation Membership to her eldest daughter, Audrey James who was a member of LKCC until her death at the age of 100 in December 2013. Daisy’s granddaughter, Valerie Lapinski is an esteemed member of LKCC and has proudly presented her grandmother’s trophy since 2014.
This year, Valerie was once again proud to present our winners of this big event. 179 ladies played in the fourball event on the main course. Of the 163 ladies who played 18 holes, the outright winners on a fantastic score of 49 points were Cath Witherow and Rebecca McGinn. 16 ladies played 9 holes and Jenny Marshall and Marilyn Sceales were the winners with 21 points.
36 ladies played 18 holes on the North Course. Ivy Sucich and Glenice Lucev were very proud to accept their trophy from Valerie. 12 ladies played 9 holes and the pleased ladies who won this were Steph Gale and Delia Giggins.
182 very well dressed ladies had a delightful meal following presentations in the main bar. The dining room was full of delicious food, fine wine, lots of laughter and 182 lovely ladies.
Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this event to fruition – everything was faultless.
The Chalice Pairs – Men’s Opening Day
This event was first held in 1984 – the winners being Paul Annand and John Gillard. The name is taken from the perpetual trophy – two silver goblets or chalices. This year’s major men’s event took place on the 13th March. 264 male members played the 4BBB Par format on the main course and an astounding 51 members played in the inaugural North Course Opening Day.
Jeff Skinner and Roy William were very popular winners of this prestige event, winning on a countback with a score of 10up. Runners up were Cam Hede and Brendan Milburn. Nearest to the Pin winners were Frazer Bone, Tom Betlehem and Heath Gillard x 2!
For the first time, the inaugural North Course Men’s Opening Day took place (see photos below of the presentations). 51 members took part in this event and most of them enjoyed poolside presentations where Captain Phil Grice presented the trophy and prizes. Winners with a great score of 9up were new members Sanjiv Manchanda and Sarab Singh.
A wonderful day full of camaraderie, tradition and fellowship was enjoyed by a record 315 men. Well done to everyone who took part in this major men’s event!
