Sunday 1st May 2022 was the annual Legacy Golf Day and Luncheon at Lake Karrinyup. Teeing off at 8am, 120 members and their guests played golf on a perfect, sunny, Autumn day in the Mixed Fourball Stableford event.
Following golf, Vice Captain, Stephen Moloney welcomed 132 people to the main bar to enjoy the 3 course meal and presentations. After entree, President, Geoff Anderson welcomed the Vice President of Legacy WA, Ian McNee and David Jones, an ex-serviceman and representative from Legacy. Geoff gave a brief history of the Legacy Golf Day at Lake Karrinyup that dates back to 1963 and he then invited Ian to the microphone to give a short insight into the work that Legacy WA performs.
Following the lunch, Vice-Captain Steve presented the prizes for the golf event with Graham Dowland and his wife, Treffina, being the outright winners with a great score of 49 points. Keith and Maxine Waller were the runners-up with 47 points. To view the full prize presentation list, including the nearest the pins, please click here.
General Manager, Gavin Burt was then assisted by Legacy’s Ian McNee with the drawing of the raffles and 19 lucky winners were drawn out of the barrel. Graham Dowland had a great day, not only winning golf but he was also drawn out first to win the main prize in the raffle. Graham generously donated this prize back to the club (3 nights’ accommodation for up to 10 people at a luxury Cape Naturaliste holiday house) to be included in the auction items.

Following on from the raffle draw, Gavin invited auctioneer James Paxton to open the bidding for the auction prizes that had pre-bids from members and thanks to those present, these items raised an amazing $18,750. Thanks to Geoff Anderson for being the winning bidder with $10,000 for the Claremont Cruise & Travel voucher, an incredibly generous donation from Barry, Helen and the Osboine family. For $4,000, Jim van der Meer retains the use of the Governor’s carpark once again for up to 12 months and well done Tony Baker for being the successful bidder with $2,000 for the Bali Holiday Package donated by Brian Bowley & Easy Golf Bali. The Cape Naturaliste holiday house raffle prize donated back by Graham Dowland earlier was auctioned off to Paul Larsen for $2,750. Ian and Kelly Francis were the donors of this prize. Thank you to James Paxton also for his auctioning expertise!!
With the raffle ticket sales, the auction items and a contribution from the Club announced by Gavin on the day, we are delighted to announce that the total amount raised by Lake Karrinyup in 2022 was an all-time record of $40,000, all of which will be donated directly to Legacy WA. Thank you to all of you who purchased tickets and thanks to the very generous members who donated prizes – we are very grateful, as are Legacy WA.
