Sunday the 8th of June saw Lake Karrinyup members host members from Royal Perth for the annual Dixie Clement Putter. Dixie Clement was a founding member of Lake Karrinyup and a long standing member of Perth Golf Club (as it was known in those days) and was a regular player at both clubs until his death in 1935. To perpetuate his memory, in 1936 Perth Golf Club inaugurated the “Dixie Clement Putter” competition to be held between our two clubs.
This years’ event saw a great field of 54 pairings from each club (108 players in total) competing against each other in a fourball par competition. After a sit down lunch in the members bar, the players headed out of the golf course to compete against each other to try and secure a point for their club. In the end it was Lake Karrinyup that came out the victors, winning 17 ½ games to 9 1/2. Post golf presentations and toasts were well attended with some great speeches from the clubs toast masters, presidents and captains. Congratulations to all Lake Karrinyup members who did a fantastic job hosting our friendly rivals.
