Men’s Club Championship Results

The Finals for the 2014 Lake Karrinyup club championships took place in beautiful sunny conditions on Sunday the 24th of August. All finals were played over 36 holes on the Lake Karrinyup layout which was presented in immaculate condition.

Excitement was building throughout the week with some fantastic matches set to tee it up and battle it out to become the champion of their respective grades.

The championship match saw 2 young guns of the club face off with Simon Liddell playing Nick Curnow in a battle of long hitting and high quality golf. Both players play off a handicap of +1 and have represented the club in the number 1 and 2 positions in pennant throughout the year. The standard for the day was set early on with both players taking driver off the first tee and driving it in the greenside bunker. Through the morning 18 holes Simon was 3 up after finding himself 2 down in the early proceedings.

Nick looked to make a move early in the afternoon winning the 3rd hole with a solid birdie. However Simon soon fought back to be 5 up through the turn. Nick did not plan on going quietly however, after being 5 down with 6 to play; he made rock solid birdies on 13 and 15 to show some fierce determination walking down the 16thfairway. With the match starting to turn in Nick’s favour, in front of a growing crowd, Simon calmly sent a 5 iron soaring towards the pin which came to rest 3 feet from the hole. When Nicks birdie attempt narrowly sipped past, the hole was conceded which awarded Simon Liddell the 2014 Club Championship.

Congratulations to all winners on the day and to all members who came out and showed the players their support.
