The club Handicap and Championship Foursomes was played on Sunday the 23rd of November. This year’s event had 36 pairs competing over 36 holes of alternate shot golf.
The day began with the traditional Breakfast where players were treated to a hot and cold buffet breakfast which is an important aspect of a long 36 hole day.
There were a number of strong opening rounds posted with Adam Price and Byron Winburn-Clarke along with Chris Carey and Roy William having great scores of nett 72.5.
Most pairings talked the course in the afternoon with the goal of improving in their afternoon round, many pairings achieved this goal and found out how to gel with their partner. Amongst the best rounds in the afternoon were Ralph Gibson and Leo Seward who improved on their morning round by 13 shots firing a net round of 71.5.
The winners of the Championship were young guns Simon Liddell and Nick Vogel who composed rounds of 74 and 79 off the stick. In second place were Geoff Piper and Ryan Croll who finished 4 shots back after rounds of 77 and 80.
The Handicap division was won this year by John Hopkins and Doug Craig who made a brief, yet excellent speech. They recovered from a slow start of nett 81 with a red hot 69 in the afternoon round. Matt Allen and Cam Fabian were the runners up in the handicap division finishing 1 shot adrift of the winners.
Over all participants seemed to enjoy the challenge of that foursomes golf presents and it is encouraging to see that the event continues to be well supported by the membership base.
