(Gerygone fusca)

Length:  10-11 cm Common

The male Western Gerygone during the breeding season signals his territory by continuously singing his sweet song. He perches and sings near the female as she builds the nest. He is silent for the remainder of the year. Its habitat is diverse, and the bird is found throughout the south west of Western Australia.

The bird is sedentary, and finds its diet of insects, and aphids in the tree canopy. The nest is a pear shaped dome with a short tail, and a side entrance. It is made from grass, and bark, and adorned with cocoons, and spider’s sacs. Eggs 2 to 3 buff, and densely speckled red brown.
