Red Ironbark

Eucalyptus sideroxylon (with the dark trunk)

Location:  8th hole on the left side, 50 metres from the green.

Other locations on course: The 3rd hole on the right side of the fairway 150 metres from the green
Origin & distribution: The tree grows sporadically in Queensland, New South Wales and north eastern Victoria.
Height: to 30 metres.
Uses: A very popular ornamental tree.  The wood is very dense and will not float.  It is used as furniture timber.

The bark is not shed annually.  The dead bark accumulates and becomes fissured.  The dense thick bark makes the tree fire resistant.

“Except during the nine months before he draws his first breath, no man manages his affairs as well as a tree does.” (George Bernard Shaw)
